Final Project

For My essay i looked into how Authorship and ownership can be blurred, For my project i am going to take images found in an electronic space that our malleable and non-linear.
While undergoing the Libre Graphics workshop I experimented using vectors in Inkscape.

I found it very interesting how easily it becomes hard to differentiate who owns the image and if it becomes a co-ownership and so for my final project i am going to take images found on the internet and trace over them with colour blocks like have done with the image above. I am also going to put an emphasis on the infinite versions idea.

This book written by Lev Manovich looks into how new media came about and how information has become non-linear. Meaning it has more than one function.

Im really going to focus on the " Anew media object is not something fixed once and for all but something that can exist in different, potentially infinite versions"
By using vectors to trace over the image i am showing how this statement is true and also who a co-ownership is possibly formed. It could possibly highlight how Authorship and ownership become a problem because images are not automatically freely available to use.

Another part i wrote about in my essay was Copyright. In an electronic space designers often find themselves in hot water for not complying to the copyright acts.

Initial Experimentation

After doing some prototypes, i am possibly going to just edit part of the picture, this is because it puts an emphasis on the co-ownership i was talking about in my essay.

This is the image i am starting with. for my experimentation I am going to use vectors to create block colours.

The process i am taking is every time i see the colour clearly change i will create a new vector and use the colour pic to tool to select that colour.

Google has a very useful function that makes sure you are not breaching any copyright laws. You can easily adjust the settings by going on the search tools and clicking "labeled for reuse with modification" this entitles me to download the image and edit the image which is what i will need for this project

Still focusing on co-ownership and the user being able to modify images they have located in an electronic space, i am going to find images and modify them to emphasise the co-ownership of images and also the infinite versions idea expressed by Manovich

I have edited the lion but left the background untouched, This is to show the co-ownership and how Authors and users can come together to create fantastic outcomes.
The world needs Authors to allow users to edit there work. It combines intelligence and allows work to blossom.

On this page i have started my research, development and prototypes for the final brief, over the christmas period i will work on it more.

These designs are to show co-ownship of images by editing part of the image but also shows how there can be infinite versions and malleable/non-linear
